Butting in with Bevis: ‘Super sleuth’ Scottburgh’s pride

There are good news stories to be proud of.

IT is difficult, but we must continue to guard against allowing the ‘negative’ to outweigh the ‘positive’ in our day-to-day thinking.

Of course we have problems galore to contend with. The media in general (with the possible exception of the SABC and New Age) harp on about the Nkandlagates, etc., etc., ad nauseum.

Locally, most people only tend to put pen to paper when they have a gripe about services and the state of our roads.

But we do have the good news stories to be proud of and the local heroes whose accomplishments get lost in the overload of bad news.

For example, a childish spat between local holiday homeowner Steve Hofmeyr and… a puppet, Chester Missing (aka Conrad Koch) have hijacked the headlines over the murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa.

Meanwhile, the real hero of the same story is another local, Shaheen Suleiman, from Magma Security, who was hired by the Meyiwa family to track down the murderers.

Scottburgh’s ‘super sleuth’ did it and two suspects were arrested in super quick time, but where are the accolades?

Then we have the friendly staff of our local post office. While the country moans and groans about the strike, the local staff kept up their good service and, therefore, Scottburgh people hardly felt a glitch.

Now we have no fewer than three local beaches that can boast Blue Flag status or close to it.

Somebody has to get a pat on the back for that as it is definitely a plus factor when people plan their holidays.

With the above in mind, surely we still have much to be thankful for and proud of?

At Caxton, every story is written by humans. We use AI only to perform quality checks - never to generate the news. Happy reading!
