Track Torque: Hamilton back on top in China

There was action aplenty at the Shanghai circuit.

LEWIS Hamilton was harried by Nico Rosberg for the entire race during the China Grand Prix in Shanghai last Sunday.

The two Mercedes drivers were pushed even harder by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.

Ferrari was again impressive but was not able to use the strategy or have the performance to outgun the Mercedes pair.

Their engines are powerful, which told again in the good performance by the two Sauber engine cars of Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson, who finished eighth and tenth respectively.

I believe we are in for some exciting duels between the two big teams in the races to come this season.

Vettel was tremendous to watch as he threw the red car around with abandon, and Kimi Raikkonen did particularly well at the start to make up several places and back up his teammate for the whole race.

The 17-year-old wonder boy, Max Verstappen drove another great race in his Toro Rosso Renault, only to come to a smoky halt with only two laps to go.

The Williams pair of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas proved again to be the number three cars holding fifth and sixth place to the end.

Romain Grosjean drove a particularly good race in his Lotus and luck was with him this time to see him finish in seventh spot.

The first eight cars were either Ferrari or Mercedes powered and it was Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull Renault who came home ninth after a tough race.

The Renaults are looking for more power, which I am sure they will get given time.

The two Mclaren Hondas performed a lot better, finishing thirteenth and fourteenth.

Button was unlucky to bump into the back of Maldonado for which he received two penalty points.

The other bright youngster, Carlos Sainz junior had an unfortunate race, spinning off on the second lap and suffering from gearbox problems for the rest of the race.

The point’s position after three races is as follows:

Drivers: Hamilton 68, Vettel 55, Rosberg 51, Massa 30, Raikkonen 24 and Bottas 18.

Constructors: Mercedes 119, Ferrari 79, Williams 48, Sauber Ferrari 19 and Redbull Renault 13.

The next race is in Bahrain this Sunday, April 19.
