Daily Devotion: ‘Don’t be like a Pharisee and reject God’s gift to the world’

How you react to their persecution will determine whether your testimony bears fruit.

I HAVE always been amazed at the dishonesty of the Pharisees in scripture. They knew Jesus came from God, and yet they persecuted Him. Their job was to show their people the way to God, and yet they knowingly rejected God’s own Gift to the world. With few exceptions, like Nicodemus who became a follower of Christ, the Pharisees knew Him but denied Him.

Today you and I face workplace Pharisees – coworkers who surely must know He is Lord, but still deny Him. A few are like Nicodemus, but so many more choose to remain completely dishonest. They know we are Christians, and may even recognise us as good people, but they knowingly choose to treat us as an evil that must be purged.

How you react to their persecution will determine whether your testimony bears fruit. So be careful. Use Christ-like actions when it comes to that workplace Pharisee sitting next to you. Let that coworker see Christ shine through you.

Today at work, make it difficult for others to be dishonest about Christ. In fact, make it impossible to deny Christ. You never know how far your testimony of actions will take someone – even to the point of becoming a believer like Nicodemus!

Reading

John 3:1-2 (NKJV) There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”John 8:13 (NKJV) The Pharisees therefore said to Him, “You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true.”John 19:39 (NKJV) And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.

Prayer

Lord, help me be like You. I want everyone at work to know You are in me. Use me in letting them know You are their God. Let them come to know You as Savior. And when they persecute me, let me rejoice because they knowingly rejected You first. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
