‘A monkey’s miraculous escape’
I thought that, given the agility of monkeys, it was most unlikely one would fall victim to a python.

DEAR Editor,-
There are so many bad stories that confront us, I thought of sharing this good and amazing story with you. Recently I visited my friend, ex-detective Sgt John Kotzee in Trafalgar. If you can recall, John was the quadriplegic stabbed in the neck 40 years ago.
He related a story told to him by his friend Johan de Bruyn who lives nearby. According to Johan, he was at home when he heard their domestic servant shrieking for help. He rushed to her and observed that she had a hose pipe and was directing the water at something.
On reaching her, she was in a frantic state and said that she had seen a massive python which had his coils around a monkey. Acting instinctively, she had directed the water from the hose pipe at the python to release the stricken monkey and the python slithered off into the thick undergrowth.
According to the domestic servant, the frightened monkey had seemingly come towards her for protection. As you obviously deduce, my story is based on hearsay, however, John has given me the assurance that Johan will have no problem in verifying this story.
I am intrigued by this incident and look forward to the views of experts relating to this incident. Personally I thought that with the agility of monkeys, it was most unlikely one would fall victim to a python.
I imagine the monkey would say: “Death touched my shoulder.”
