Track Torque: Brit wins British Grand Prix

It is a pity that the Williams pair did not get at least one podium position after such an encouraging performance.

LEWIS Hamilton drove a brilliant race in mixed weather conditions at Silverstone last Sunday. The two Williams cars of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas took the lead at the start of the race and both Hamilton and Nico Rosberg battled to get past them.

It is a pity that the Williams pair did not get at least one podium position after such an encouraging performance. They finished in fourth and fifth positions respectively.

All credit must go to Sebastian Vettel, who drove another masterly race from an unusual position behind team mate Kimi Raikkonen – who also drove a great race. Raikkonen, who had led Vettel for much of the race, chose to run on intermediate tyres too early, requiring a further pitstop, which pushed him back to eighth position at the finish.

Red Bull lost top man Daniel Ricciardo who retired with electrical trouble after he had nudged the two Lotuses into each other at the start. Daniel Kvyat had a terrific race (with what he described as a brilliant handling car) to finish sixth. Force India arrived with two completely new cars for drivers Nico Hulkenburg and Sergio Perez. They did very well and came home seventh and ninth.

Finally, for the top ten, it was great to see Fernando Alonso in the points with tenth position for his McLaren Honda. Luckless Jenson Button retired at the end of lap one when his engine switched off after an accident.

This leaves Hamilton leading the world championship with 194 points, Rosberg second with 177 points and Vettel third with 135. The next race is in Hungary on July 19.
