The onus is on Ugu to save water

Ugu did not send anyone to our house so how could the case be closed when the matter is not resolved?

DEAR Editor,-

I will get straight to the point – Ugu has had the audacity to continuously put the responsibility of saving water on communities alone. Ugu however, has failed dismally in doing its part. We are currently experiencing a drought and this was made worse with the salt water saga we have just experienced. At exactly the same time as the water situation normalised for most of us, I phoned Ugu to report that there was a leak on our property and we were losing water at a rapid rate and asked whether they could send somebody urgently to remedy the situation.

That was a week ago. When I called Ugu this week to follow up, we were told that the case we had opened was closed because the matter was resolved. Ugu did not send anyone to our house so how could the case be closed when the matter is not resolved? How much water goes to waste because of Ugu’s negligence and inability to save water, when the onus is on them? Driving around the South Coast, whether in the suburbs or rural areas, you are bound to see water leaks with enormous amounts of water being wasted. All because Ugu does not efficiently save water.
