OPINION: ‘Half-job repair is a hazard’

The hole has become a mosquito breeding haven, but should a child wander over and fall in, they could drown.

DEAR Editor,-

I live on Lilliecrona Boulevard in Uvongo am extremely frustrated. We have continually tried to get Ugu to acknowledge an unfinished repair job that has been abandoned for about a month. I have a reference number, as well as proof of my calls to Ugu. Originally, this was a water leak that Ugu thought was coming from the neighbour’s yard. However they found that the leak bordered our property and the property belonging to the municipality. The large broken water valve was replaced with a brand new one, which has been left sitting in approximately a metre of rainwater.

My concern is that the hole was never closed. This has now become a mosquito breeding haven, but it concerns me that since the holidays are upon us, should a child wander over and fall in, they could drown. I constantly hit a blank wall with Ugu. The attached photographs show that the bamboo ‘poles’ used to demarcate the area have started taking root and the stagnant water is not draining at all.
