DEAR Editor,-
I am still dumbstruck with what has just happened. I live in Ramsgate and own three hens, one rooster and nine newly-hatched chicks. Last week, a SAPS van with two officers arrived at my house to ‘investigate’ a complaint from one of my neighbours with regards to my chickens entering the neighbour’s yard!
I asked them if they were serious and whether South Africans have run out of things to complain about, but they were very serious about the issue. In light of all the violent crimes on the South Coast, how can the SAPS entertain such petty issues?
Try to picture the scene. Neighbour: “Hello, I would like to lay a complaint against my neighbour because his chickens sometimes wander into my yard.” Police: “Ok, where do you live and what is the address. We will send two officers to the premises immediately to investigate the crime scene.”
This is so typical! The SAPS wastes time and resources on nonsense instead of looking for criminals and keeping us safe. Surely senior officials need to know how time and money is wasted on petty issues.
