OPINION: ‘Roaming dogs pose a problem’

This can result in people's dogs being trapped in snares or bitten by snakes.

DEAR Editor,-

According to an Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife official at the Mpenjati Nature Reserve, a problem with roaming dogs in the reserve has arisen. These dogs can only be from surrounding areas like Trafalgar, Palm Beach and others, and no doubt chase after wildlife.

This can result in people’s dogs being trapped in snares or bitten by snakes. Should a dog survive a snare, it will be taken to the Lower South Coast SPCA where the owner can collect it and pay a fine of R1 000.

Recently dogs killed a bushbuck in Leisure Bay and the owner was fined and warned if it happens again, his dogs will be taken away for good. So please, let us keep Mpenjati Nature Reserve wild.
