OPINION: ‘Shona is a credit to herself and the Herald’

Simon April should not confuse his loyalty to HCM on the one hand and the ANC on the other.

DEAR Editor,-

There is an old saying ‘If you throw a stone into the bush and you hear a noise, then you know you have hit something’. In this instance Simon April, senior manager, Mayoralty and Communication of Hibiscus Coast Municipality came out screaming – yet there was nothing hidden.

It is all out there for tax and ratepayers to see. Wastage, neglect, lack of productivity, the list is endless. Far be it for us to tell the municipality how to do their job. It would be more than appropriate to tell them to just do their job – for which I am sure adequate productivity-related remuneration is paid or should be paid. Simon April should not confuse his loyalty to HCM on the one hand and the ANC on the other. The former serves all inhabitants and pays his salary.

Let me comment on the unwarranted attack on the Herald and the vicious attack on Shona Aylward in particular. Here we have an experienced reporter/journalist, whose integrity unto herself is of paramount importance. If the truth hurts HCM, that is tough. But the truth must out.

Shona is indeed a credit to herself and the Herald.
