DEAR Editor,-
The garbage collecting in the run-off drain under the concrete slab at Hibiscus Mall opposite the Checkers stock delivery entrance is just left to pile up. This garbage will probably end up in the Indian Ocean and as we all know that marine creatures get choked and possibly die when thinking it is edible and try it.
Mall manageress Alice Brandsma says that it is Ugu’s responsibility to clean it up, but she will see what she can do, although it’s not her problem. The assistant manager at the anchor tenant Checkers asked me why I don’t clean it up myself if I was so concerned about the environment. So there it collects and no one wants to take any responsibility. What a state. Getting paid to do little or nothing at all.
Incidentally, I did pass there the next day and gave the mall cleaner who had been working at it alone for over two hours a little something for cleaning the mess.
The garbage between the car wash boundary at the mall and Pick n Pay’s service entrance is the same. I certainly hope the owner has had it cleaned since it was brought to his attention on March 18. People relieve themselves there. What the eye doesn’t see, the heart can’t grieve.
