OPINION: ‘Xolani is a sterling example’

If the total police force could operate in this efficient manner, Margate could become a crime-free town again.

DEAR Editor,-

We relocated from Gauteng to Margate two years ago to spend our retirement years by the sea. We thought we would have a relaxed and safe old age, but then something bad happened.

In February, we were mugged in the residential area behind the Netcare Margate Hospital. Two men with knives took our cellphones and Ipad and fled. We immediately reported the incident to the police and submitted a written statement at the police station.

We were so impressed with the manner in which the case was handled. Friendly and helpful staff took our statement and promised that a detective would be in touch shortly. The very next day, sergeant Xolani Nqoko contacted us and informed us that everything possible would be done to catch the criminals. Due to technology, the ‘dropbox’ application made it possible to locate my cellphone and immediately after, we noticed photos taken with my phone starting to come through on our computer.

I contacted Sergeant Nqoko and within two days of this call, my phone was located and people were arrested. Sergeant Nqoko truly deserves a big thank you. He was committed and efficient and kept us informed all the time. His dedication and loyalty to our case can be commended. If the total police force could operate in this efficient manner, Margate could become a crime-free town again.
