OPINION: Check for a sign before paying the fine

Travelling from Marina Beach to Buck's Farm Stall, there is no sign indicating a camera for speed trapping.

DEAR Editor,-

According to the prosecuting guidelines for speed measurement equipment and traffic light violation monitoring equipment as published in 2012, there are quite a few regulations. Which brings me to my point.

If there is a camera to monitor speed, there should be a road sign set up not more than 300 metres before the said camera, depicting a camera icon and the speed limit.

Travelling from Marina Beach to Buck’s Farm Stall, there is no sign whatsoever indicating a camera for speed trapping. There is a mobile camera set up just before the farm stall, which means that all speeding tickets issued there are illegal. Everybody who has paid speeding fines issued from that camera should get their money back.

I know that they will erect a warning sign after reading this letter. Drivers must make a note of the date when such a sign is erected and remember that all tickets before that date would be illegal.
