OPINION: ‘Forum expresses sincere thanks’

This combined resource has made a significant impact on the management of crime.

DEAR Editor,-

Although patrollers have been operational for over a year, they are now doing so under the direct supervision of the Ramsgate Community Policing Forum (RCPF). At least one car is on the road every night and enjoys close and continuous support of the two patrol cars dedicated to Ramsgate by Maserforce and Wolf Security respectively, as well as the SAPS Reservists.

This combined resource has made a significant impact on the management of crime.

On behalf of the Ramsgate community, the CPF takes this opportunity to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Sharon Smith, who is the CPF coordinator of the patrol group, as well as Eugene and Quinn Prinsloo, Ross Douthwaite, Pat and Arnold Muller, Steve Thomas, Clair Young, John and Tristan Halforty, Ben Bodenstein, Anthony Greer, Theo Halforty, Carol-Ann Vorster, Johan Coetzee, Fred Goodhead and Ken Symmons.

The patrol group also continues to build successful partnerships with similar initiatives in neighbouring precincts.

This was evidenced recently when 32 cars from all of the CPFs along the coast combined in a show of force on patrol between Ramsgate and Shelly Beach on the evening of the Jazz Festival.

While we are working hand in hand with all the armed security companies in Ramsgate, we would like to extend special thanks to Maserforce and Wolf Security who, through their partnership with patrolling teams, provide back-up and support to the resident patrollers and Ramsgate SAPS, whenever required. This support has led to a number of successful arrests and recovery of stolen goods.
