OPINION: ‘Bad sound spoiled the show’

The 'sound person' moved around so much it became a distraction to the audience.

DEAR Editor,-

With reference to the Elvis show held at Margate Retirement Village’s Azalea Hall last Saturday, it is such a pity that live shows don’t seem to monitor the sound. Blasting our ears as if we are hard of hearing, which some may be, but if the words sung by the singer can’t be heard, what’s the point of attending the show?

We may as well listen to singers on the radio, TV, CD or such.

At the show last Saturday, the ‘sound person’ moved around so much it became a distraction to the audience. He also only seemed to check volume clarity on one side of hall, but there are two sides and there may or may not be the same clarity on both.

We can’t see ourselves supporting artists if this is what is going to happen.

One artist who performed some time ago apologised by saying that the sound system was meant for an audience of 1 000, yet the hall only had about 350 people in it? Why not adjust the sound to acceptable levels?
