OPINION: ‘Uvongo Drive urgently needs attention’

A baby monkey ventured into the road and was run over by the speedster, who never even stopped or slowed down.

DEAR Editor,-

I have lived in Uvongo Drive for 13 years and on a daily basis witness numerous speedsters driving along this road which has a speed limit of 60km, with absolutely no regard for the fact that it is a residential area with children and animals around.

A petition was signed two years ago for speed bumps to be installed and absolutely nothing has happened, apart from two lines being painted in the road to demarcate the proposed area for a speed bump to be installed. This would be futile because Uvongo Drive is such a long road and needs at least three speed bumps to be effective.

Nothing transpired since then.

Sadly, while taking my dog for a ‘peaceful’ walk recently, one of these speedsters came flying along the road where monkeys were playing. A baby monkey ventured into the road and was run over by the speedster, who never even stopped or slowed down. It was heart-breaking to watch the mother trying to pick up her dead baby.

Strangely, when driving through Oslo Beach or the Marburg residential areas, there are speed bumps installed every few metres along the roads, but nothing gets done in the Uvongo area.

VERY UNHAPPY

Uvongo
