OPINION: Where is law enforcement when you need them?

Erect a barrier between the lanes or have some sort of mechanism in place to stop this illegal behaviour.

DEAR Editor,-

Law enforcement vehicles are seen shopping, dropping off and collecting children from school (especially in Sea Park) on a daily basis, yet there are potentially dangerous situations arising in Port Shepstone and not a law enforcement member in sight!

Not only is picking up of lift-seekers getting worse as you exit the slip-road at Oribi Plaza (trucks, bakkies, KZN vehicles, taxis), but the trend of motorists crossing from the right turn lane at the robots in front of vehicles to get to the slip-road is an accident waiting to happen.

Just the other day, three taxis turned in from the right-hand lane with no consideration whatsoever and this happens continuously.

It’s about time something is done about it. Erect a barrier between the lanes or have some sort of mechanism in place to stop this illegal behaviour. Suggesting a law enforcement vehicle be stationed there from 7am to 7pm can only be wishful thinking, as we all know that will only last for a day or two, like putting out cones to prevent stopping for pick-ups.
