OPINION: ‘Traffic congestion prevented hospital access’

Signage would at least give you the opportunity to decide if you would like to take the chance to swim or not.

DEAR Editor,-

Our daughter started with the same symptoms and was vomiting non-stop last Friday (SCH December 30, Concerns over outbreak). What upsets me most is the fact that there were no warning signs at any of the beaches of the ‘unknown’ outbreak. Signage would at least give you the opportunity to decide if you would like to take the chance to swim or not.

Only at the pharmacy did we hear about the rising concern. There were no private doctors available and the terrible traffic made it impossible to get to a hospital with a vomiting child. She swam in the ocean only twice, at Uvongo and St Michael’s.

Maybe one of the hospital doctors or council could come up with a solution for easier access to doctors during such crises or maybe something could be published – like ‘dos and don’ts’, what medication to use or just generally what to do – which should help the general public.
