OPINION: ‘Sewage is the main source of the problem’

Mr Brauteseth, be a new shining light and tell us ratepayers the facts.

DEAR Editor,-

Are we serious that the temporary septic tanks installed at Masinenge Informal Settlement are for the 26 families living in the new dwellings being built? (‘Uvongo lagoon in trouble’ SCH February 10).

Councillor Paul Brauteseth, it is commendable that your passion is to help the Masinenge community, but can you advise the ratepayers at large how the sewage generated by the informal settlement is treated?

If 20 000 litres tank capacity is required to house 26 families on a daily basis, where is the sewage generated by the estimated 1 000 families? By the same calculation, what is required is capacity for approximately 770 000 litres per day.

Surely the reality is: It is the sewage generated by this area being washed down into the Ivungu river that is the main source of the Uvongo lagoon pollution problem.

Mr Brauteseth, be a new shining light and tell us ratepayers the facts.

That way we can all go forward. Bulldust is for the sewage tanks.
