DEAR Editor,-
My wife and I were residents of Shad Lane and assure you there was no such vague pet policy as implied by Dianne Hayter.
The Hayters applied to the body corporate to relax the rules and make an exception for their pets and this was granted.
The feral cats have been an ongoing issue and I was present at the meeting between the body corporate and Mrs Hayter, who arrived with the SPCA.
During this meeting it was established that the root cause of the issue was that Mrs Hayter was overfeeding the cats.

The SPCA recommended that she dramatically reduce the feeding because the more she fed, the more it would encourage additional cats to join and breed with such an abundance of food.
I assure you this advice was not adhered to – the SPCA was confident the population would definitely diminish to four or six cats if they were fed only a small amount.
The cats were really a problem – we counted in excess of ten in the complex at times.
They would urinate on our veranda, sleep on our furniture and deterred any flourishing birdlife.
Mrs Hayter is not considering other residents in the complex by ignoring SPCA recommendations – recommendations that she agreed to.

It is a real pity the Herald did not speak to other residents within the complex to get both sides of the story.
