THE Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal calls on the KZN MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube to urgently institute an investigation and take necessary action against Ugu District Municipality for its failure to provide water to Murchison Hospital.
“It is shocking to learn that medical services at Murchison Hospital in Port Shepstone are being negatively affected, sometimes for days, because of unreliable water supply.
It’s bad enough that healthy residents have to go without water, but it really becomes a problem when trying to care for the sick at a large hospital that caters for hundreds of patients daily.
This calls for an urgent investigation because the hospital management has been in contact with the Ugu District Municipality about water shortages but nothing has happened,” said IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson on Health, Ncamisile Nkwanyana, MPL.
“Water shortages at health care facilities place immense strain on hospital personnel who have many other challenges to face while caring for patients.

The Ugu Municipality must understand the seriousness of the situation and give urgent attention to this issue in order to bring relief to our people. There is a tendency amongst ANC led administrations to ignore calls for better service delivery.
It happens very often that reasonable calls made by the community are ignored and this leads to community protests. The government of the day must not wait for things to reach crisis proportions before it acts.
Ongoing attention to infrastructure maintenance and service delivery is required at health care facilities across the province,” concluded Ms Nkwanyana.
