OPINION: ‘The gate is a preventative measure’

Naked people were running around and condoms were found on the beach.

DEAR Editor,-

With reference to the article ‘Trump-gate must go’ (SCH March 31), nobody was ever barred from visiting Trafalgar beach.

The gate was closed at 6pm in the evening due to drunk parties held in a public beach area and the parking area. Even when the gate was closed, people could still walk around it – fishermen park on the beach lane.

Lifeguards leave at 6pm, so how could they have been chased away?

Fires were lit all over the parking area, broken alcohol bottles lay strewn everywhere, toilet windows were smashed and there was even a hole in the roof.

Naked people were running around and condoms were found on the beach. People living in the area had to go and clean up.

The toilets are still in such a bad state after being vandalised, so how much longer will it remain a Blue Flag beach? The ramp to the beach is also broken.

Andre Janse van Rensburg is not a law unto himself, he is only looking after the safety of residents as there are a lot of elderly residents.

It is important to note that before the gate was erected, it was discussed with locals.

We now wonder when the toilets and ramp are going to be fixed. Come and have a look at the state of the toilets – and this just before the Easter weekend!
