OPINION: ‘Wonderful random act of kindness’

The noisy brake callipers are now quiet, thanks to Pieter.

DEAR Editor,-

Last Sunday morning while driving along the beach road towards Uvongo River (south side), I saw a Daihatsu Sirion identical to mine parked on the side of the road with the hazard lights flashing.

I stopped to offer assistance and the man, Pieter (did not get his surname), said that everything was fine. We started chatting and I asked him if he had any problems with his car, to which he replied no.

I told him that the only trouble I had was the brake callipers were noisy on bumpy roads. Without hesitating he offered to have a look at the brakes and requested that I come to his house at about 1pm, which we did.

He had a look at both front brakes and added some more grease to the callipers.

After coffee with his wife, we thanked him sincerely and left for home. The noisy brake callipers are now quiet, thanks to Pieter.

I am truly grateful and also surprised at this stranger offering to repair the brakes on a Sunday – without any cost to me.

This is such a wonderful random act of kindness, shown to a stranger, which you won’t find readily in South Africa. What a wonderful man. God bless him!
