Opinion: ‘Rigid speed restrictions must be applied’

This seems to be the only solution to reducing the number of accidents at ‘Suicide Bend’.

DEAR Editor.

I am a fairly regular visitor to the South Coast and, on most occasions, use the R102 to reach Port Shepstone via Hibberdene, of course taking great care to observe the variety of strict speed limits through the latter town.

Why can’t the same rigid restrictions be applied when passing through Sunwich Port, as this seems to be the only solution to reducing the number of accidents at ‘Suicide Bend’.

It is obvious the relevant authority responsible for this road is incapable of rectifying a very serious problem and, like Pontius Pilate, have washed their hands of the affair, exposing more unsuspecting motorists to the very real possibility of more deaths or at least serious injury.
