OPINION: ‘This sounds like a brilliant idea’

This concept would also help the retail Industry as the bigger the pothole gets, the bigger the pot needed.

In response to your article in South Coast Herald dated May 19th  Guerrilla gardening, anyone?

This sounds like a brilliant idea, but unfortunately we have to consider water restrictions and  the fact that the torrential rains will not always be available to nourish the newly planted gardens.

I have been considering for quite some time now, that we should implement a POTHOLE POETJIE COMPETITON on a monthly basis.

YOU MIGHT ALSO BE INTERESTED INThe perennial pothole question: can you claim for damages?

Each street will have the home occupants, with their corresponding pothole in their street in front of their home, as a cooking area.

This concept would also help the retail Industry as the bigger the pothole gets, the bigger the pot needed.

Swopping of pots is also encouraged as this will create a “caring is sharing” policy among our community.

However, do not dispose of any of your different size pots.On the rare occasion, the Municipality does fling a bit of stuff in the pothole and steam roll it flat.

If you are lucky enough to witness this,or if you would like to do so, make sure you look out for a crowd of approximately seven Municipal Workers. This normally takes place out of regular working hours i.e on the weekends or public holidays.

This is a fantastic way to meet your neighbors and make a social event of it. There will be no need for Drinking & Driving & at the same time you will be close to your property in

order to protect your residence from Home Invaders. Electricity consumption will be lowered.

Stories and food can be exchanged and a great comradeship formed.

As far as the cars wanting to travel on the street…well by this time people should have realised that the streets are not fit for vehicle use anyway.

We would be saving the motorists and Insurance Companies thousands of Rands on car damage repairs.

Ok… let’s get the pots fired up and for the Poetjie Novices, a subtle hint, a poetjie cooks like the Municipality operates…. very very slowly!
