OPINION: ‘Old ads are a blot on the landscape’

Political parties who fail to comply by not removing their posters are supposed to be fined.

DEAR Editor,-

Political parties had 30 days to remove posters following last year’s (August 3) local government elections, however on the R102 in Port Shepstone, tattered and torn ANC posters can still be seen on the light poles.

In terms of by-laws and security measures, it states that those parties who fail to comply with the terms of not removing their posters will be fined. So why are the posters still there?

YOU MIGHT ALSO BE INTERESTED INIllegal posters seem to be a sign of the times in Marine Drive

Throughout the South Coast streets, old and tatty posters advertise events that are long gone and new posters are just tacked onto old ones or wherever there is space.

Nobody removes them? Why? In Uvongo and Southport there are posters still advertising the 2016 Christmas market?

In Hibberdene posters still invite prospective voters to register in March for last year’s municipal elections. Ludicrous!

Please would someone be kind enough to advise who is responsible for the removal of old, outdated advertisements. We have enough clutter, debris and garbage lying around the South Coast without these light pole eyesores.
