OPINION: ‘Line of thought not logical’

Although I am an outsider, living in Umkomaas, I am not a practising Christian and therefore my emotions are not influenced by race, politics and religion in this matter.

Dear Editor:

In response to Mr Moolla’s continued flogging of a dead horse, I would just like to say the following:- I am an avid follower of Mr Moolla’s writings and his ability to make the public aware of issues happening domestically and throughout the country.

The following questions however need answering.

What thought process led to the need for a mosque to be built in a residential area predominately occupied by Christians, where a number of Christian church denominations exist?

Secondly, what logic is being applied? In other words, why do Muslims living outside the said area want to travel to a mosque that does not exist in the area in which they live?

Thirdly, were there consultations and correct communications with the residents in the said area where the Mosque is to be built?

I have followed this debate between Mr Moolla and Mr Putter and no answers were provided by Mr Moolla on my third question.

Instead, Mr Moolla’s response is fuddled and unconcise and it seems that Mr Moolla, on the topic of religion, does not follow his usual clear thinking, which is disappointing.

It is clear that Mr Moolla’s response to Mr Putter’s letter is not only emotional but also a personal attack on Mr Putter’s character, which I find offensive and disturbing.

If Mr Moolla made the effort and took the time to research Mr Putter, he would have found the following. Mr Putter is a highly educated man and is a financial advisor with a degree in political and economic studies.

This reflects in his style of thinking and writing, which could be confusing or even misunderstood. Furthermore, if he had done his research he would find that Mr Putter has many Muslim clients as well as clients that reflect all levels of society and race.

Comparing the building of a medical centre in a community that needs one to that of a mosque in community predominantly Christian, is an unhinged argument. To use the old adage to flog a dead horse – ie you are a racist and intolerant of other religions and a product of apartheid when you are a white South African objecting or questioning shady decision-making is weak and unfair.

What qualifies me to defend Mr Putter is the fact that I have been a close friend of his for many years and we share the same passion for debating and factual research on political and social matters.

Although I am an outsider, living in Umkomaas, I am not a practising Christian and therefore my emotions are not influenced by race, politics and religion in this matter.

In closing, Mr Moolla, may Allah continue blessing you and your family for another 78 years, but please keep your arguments objective and fair as is your usual style.
