JUST how many men are willing to pay ‘mavuso’ or ‘girlfriend allowance’, and is it compulsory to do so?
Well, I don’t know, but word on the street is, women love it when a man says: “Pass me that wallet please”….or “how much do you need?”
Is it right though? Does it not create unrealistic expectations from women? Does it not push women who want to make a quick buck to take part in things like mavuso stokvels?
For those who don’t know, mavuso, (a word derived from ‘vuka’ meaning ‘wake-up’) is money paid to a woman after spending the night with a man who is in some cases a total stranger. And NO it’s not classified as prostitution because there is no fixed price. Mavuso can be as high as R3 000, depending on ‘fat’ the man’s wallet is.
#KasiTaughtMe that when u get a onenight stand with a stranger chick frm previous night club, the next morning u pay #Mavuso or else 10111..

On the other hand ‘girlfriend-allowance’ is a monthly sum given to a woman by her ‘bae’ (boyfriend) to take care of herself.
The question is, how do men decide which girlfriend gets the allowance? Do you know? I certainly would like to know….
Well, the girlfriend allowance recently came under the spotlight during last weekend’s episode of Mzansi Magic’s ‘Date my Family’ when batchelorette Asavela made it clear she was looking for a man who would give her girlfriend allowance.
I mean….! Whaaaaaaaat? Do women still expect such from men?

Asavela opened a can of worms. While some women supported her by saying a man must put his money where his mouth is if he wanted to keep his girlfriend happy, men who obviously are nowhere close to paying a girlfriend allowance or mavuso wouldn’t hear of it.
Girlfriend allowance for maintenance!!! This girls is mad, does she even work to begin with? #DateMyFamily

Well folks, if life was that simple, we wouldn’t have to wake up and go to work but as with almost everything that comes easy, there is often a high price to pay, and sometimes that price is LIFE.
I also happen to think when women subject themselves to such things, men gain power and control over them but that’s just my opinion.
The saying goes ‘Ngesizulu bathi Indoda yindoda ngezinkomo zayo’ which means a man is a man by the number of cows he has.
These days however he seems to be judged by the amount of money he has.
