Track Torque: Best of British for Hamilton

Things are evenly poised as the Formula 1 season nears the halfway stage.

LEWIS Hamilton drove an excellent race to lead from pole position all the way to the chequered flag to win the British Grand Prix at Silverstone last Sunday.

Valtteri Bottas also drove a terrific race from a penalised grid position to second spot, making it a one-two, cleansweep for Mercedes.

Kimi Raikkonen was third in his Ferrari after performing well all weekend.

He and Sebastian Vettel in their Ferraris both had problems towards the end after literally wearing their tyres out.

Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo both gave a wonderful display of top-notch driving to come home fourth and fifth in their Red Bull Renaults.

Nico Hulkenberg did a very good job in the Renault to finish sixth with unlucky Vettel relegated to seventh position.

The two Force Indias again ran well giving Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez eighth and ninth positions.

Felipe Massa was in the final point scoring position in his Williams Mercedes.

Riccardo was deemed driver of the day after bringing his car all the way from 19th on the grid to fifth place at the finish.

It was a good race which stayed dry until just after the end and there was one intervention of the safety car.

Hamilton’s win was his fifth British, equalling Jim Clark’s record. Vettel is now only one point ahead of Hamilton in the championship.

The last race before the summer break is in Hungary in two weeks’ time.

The circuit is an equaliser and should see Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull much closer to each other.

It is very healthy to see an almost equal-points position as we enter mid-season; it bodes well for an exciting second half.
