OPINION: ‘Words don’t do Sergeant Ncane justice’

He is a truly selfless and dedicated officer of the law.

DEAR Editor,-

Allow me to extol Margate Saps and the local media for their efforts in helping find missing 13-year-old Dineo Ngcungama from Gcilima.

The police, especially Sergeant S’bu Ncane, station commander Brigadier William Slabbert and Warrant Officer Joseph Xolo have been really outstanding.

IN CASE YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED IT : Dineo (13) has been missing for nearly two weeks – have you seen her?

The matter of the missing Dineo was brought to my attention while attending Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel’s budget speech in the National Assembly in Parliament.

On the same day, I made contact with Sergeant Ncane. Although on leave, he took the matter seriously and enquired further with colleagues at the station. He even used his own airtime to do so.

He has been very dedicated and committed to helping find the missing girl. Ncane is a truly selfless and dedicated officer of the law.

I would even aver that he is one of those model officers who also oozes patriotism as they go about serving our country diligently. There are no sufficient words to commend this phenomenal police officer.

WO Xolo has also been updating me when necessary and Brig Slabbert made sure his officers left no stone unturned in their search for the missing girl.

We are relieved and happy that the girl has been found alive and the suspect who abducted her is behind bars. We hope the suspect will be successfully prosecuted and imprisoned for a very long time.

Turning my attention to the local press, the media remains a critical and indispensable sector of society. Local journos played a crucial role in disseminating information about Dineo.

Thank you to local newspapers (such as the South Coast Herald and Ugu Eyethu) and radio stations (including Radio Sunny South and Ugu Youth Radio Station) for spreading the message so effectively.

Lastly, thank you to all community members who used different communication and social media platforms to help find Dineo. And all the prayers for the girl’s safe return were much appreciated.
