DEAR Editor,-
We bought a restaurant in Margate last year and have tried to help keep Margate ‘alive and kicking’. It’s not an easy job, trust me.
Holidays are awesome, but ‘out of season’ times are pathetic – and there must be many reasons for this, I’m sure.
We have rebuilt the restaurant and tried to give it a new lease on life by adding a ‘kiddies’ corner’ and big-screen Tvs for all sports events.
We have a great view and vibe, offer ‘value for money’ meals and await our gambling machines. We have also spent almost R60 000 trying to get our entertainment licence.
Having said that, local support is just not good enough and I’m sure I can speak on behalf of most businesses in Margate. We salute all restaurant and pub owners.
You can see how everyone tries different things to get local support – and they work very long hours.
Many people tell us that parking is the problem in town.
I phoned the owner of an empty property next to our restaurant and offered to rent it, but he is not interested. He does not even want to sell it and the place just stands empty.
This would be ideal – it could solve most parking problems and change Margate.
So maybe, just maybe, the ‘powers that be’, or maybe Julius Malema or President Cyril Ramaphosa can make him an offer he can’t refuse.
DISHEARTENED
Margate
