Life imprisonment for Hibberdene rapist

The victim confided in a teacher who then reached out to police.

Siphamandla Benjamin Ngcobo (35) was convicted in the Scottburgh Regional Court and sentenced to life imprisonment for rape.

According to police, he raped a teenager from Mfazazane on October 9, 2022

Reports indicate that the victim told a teacher about the crime when no one else believed her. Thereafter, police were contacted, and Hibberdene Saps registered a case of rape for investigation.

Ngcobo was then arrested. After several court appearances, he was convicted and sentenced on July 20.

He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his details will be entered in the National Register for Sex Offenders as well as the National Child Protection Register.

In terms of the Children’s Act 38 of 2005, he was declared unsuitable to work with children.
