OPINION: ‘Parking hog shows no remorse’

When I confronted him, his response was that if I raised my voice to him - he would not move his car.

DEAR Editor,-

There is a horrible saying that ‘No good deed goes unpunished’. Alas, it is true.

On Friday, August 24 at 2.48pm, I experienced real road rage – fortunately I was not driving.

There was no parking in front of the Dip Spar at the Port Shepstone Mall, so I drove around to the south side car park.

A car guard ushered me into a perfectly legitimate parking space and I walked down the stairs to the supermarket to buy a few treats for a friend in hospital.

Visiting hours are from 3pm to 4pm. When I returned to my vehicle it had been parked in by a white car, not only blocking my car but two others as well.

I called the car guard and asked why he had allowed the driver to leave his car to block three others. He mumbled and ran off.

After 15 minutes of patience I snapped. By now I was late for visiting hours and no exceptions are made in the high care ward.

I went into every shop asking if anyone drove a white Polo – no response.

Eventually after 45 minutes a young man dangling keys in his hand walked towards the offending vehicle.

When I confronted him about his inconsiderate parking, his response was that if I raised my voice to him – he would not move his car.

No apology and not even a hint of contriteness. My hospital patient had a four-minute visit.
