OPINION: ‘Temple demolition a sad day for Hindus’

We need to stand up and let our voices be heard.

DEAR Editor;

I was utterly dismayed to read the article ‘Tempers flare as Umbango temple is demolished’ in a recent issue of the South Coast Herald.

It is indeed a sad day in the history of not only the community of Port Shepstone, but all Hindu organisations and communities throughout the country.

Many of our elders toiled selflessly to provide our community with a place of worship.

The landlord shows a blatant disregard for the temple, and he has definitely lost credibility within the community.

It is perhaps now time for chairman, Dr Mala Appalraju to embark upon some serious discussion with the community and temple members.

It is also time to get our senior stalwarts, like Johnson Naidoo, Bob Pillay and Saths Chettiar involved.

The community must take the landlord to court, as their silence will be tantamount to complicity.

We need to stand up and let our voices be heard.

I am a firm believer in the law of karma and love the saying ‘no harm shall ever come to one who never strays into evil’.
