OPINION: No sensible farmer would use insecticide willy-nilly

The author said, "Why would we poison our customers?"

I am horrified that you allowed the article of Helen Dodge to be published in our local newspaper, the Herald, dated November 15, 2024.

She accuses farmers of poisoning the soil. Farmers know how important good soil health is. No sensible farmer would use insecticide willy-nilly.

They work according to strict rules, and the cost is very high. Why would we poison our customers? The farmer and his family also have to eat. Would they poison their own food? Surely not.

Then Helen is stirring politically. What does she mean by Black Economic Empowerment being of no use? At the end, she says the blaming and arresting of spaza shop owners is a deflection tactic designed to divide communities.

Is Helen blaming the deaths on farmers?
