Police seize drugs, counterfeit notes in Margate

The recovered drugs are valued at R54 000.

KwaZulu-Natal SAPS Provincial Drugs and Firearm Unit recently recovered R600 000 of counterfeit R100 notes from a 36-year-old man in Margate.

According to KZN police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, police caught the unsuspecting man after receiving information about a drug dealer who was busy packaging drugs in his flat on Erasmus Road.

Gwala added that the 36-year-old was found in possession of 126 ecstasy tablets, 216 pink/clear capsules, five pieces of rock cocaine, 30 plastic wrappings of cocaine powder, 10 clear packets of cocaine powder, a full moon of rock cocaine, and three large packets of cocaine powder.

“Police also seized R600 000 of counterfeit R100 notes from the man. The recovered drugs are valued at R54 000,” she said.

Meanwhile, on Uplands Road in Margate, Gwala said a 31-year-old man was found with 26 plastic bags of crystal meth. She added that the recovered drugs are valued at R6 500, saying that the man was then arrested for possession and dealing in drugs.

“Both suspects appeared before the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court, last Thursday morning,” said Gwala.
