The municipality added that teams from SANDF played a pivotal role in Umdoni Municipality mop-up operations, fixing bad roads in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, and removing rubble among other things.

Ugu District Municipality Disaster Management said farewell to the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members who were in the district to provide relief to flood victims.

According to Ugu District Municipality, in the last few weeks, SANDF members alongside Ugu Disaster teams distributed food parcels, blankets, mattresses, water and provided much-needed relief for flood victims.

The municipality added that teams from SANDF played a pivotal role in Umdoni Municipality mop-up operations, fixing bad roads in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, and removing rubble among other things.

During their stay in the Ugu district, army troops had set up camp in the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe.
The deployment of the SANDF on the South Coast was part of Operation Chariot, which was a drive by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), aimed at bringing relief to flood victims.

Although a number of South Coasters said they have never seen army troops bringing any relief, Ugu said it is yet to share photos of the work done by the SANDF in the district.
