Trafalgar robbers sentenced
Captain Petros Mpinge said this happened after a 65-year-old man opened the door to let his dog out when the two men, brandishing knives forced their way inside.
The Port Shepstone Regional Court recently sentenced two 35-year-old men to 20 years’ and 15 years’ imprisonment respectively, for house robbery with intent to rob and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
According to Port Shepstone police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge, in June 2021 Sgqigqi Simphiwe Ngeleka and Sphamandla Tani Ngeleka tied up family members at Hood Street in Trafalgar and robbed them of their personal possessions and fled after traumatising them.
Mpinge said this happened after a 65-year-old man opened the door to let his dog out when the two men, brandishing knives forced their way inside.
He added that Detective Sergeant Zolile Sibisi of Margate Detective Service successfully investigated the case and traced the suspects to the Woza area in KwaNzimakwe where they were arrested.
Ugu District Detective Commander, Brigadier Bongani Sibiya said he was satisfied with the outcome of the case, adding that criminals will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and persons benefiting from the purchase of stolen property will also face possible imprisonment.
