Ugu calls for calm amidst water outages

The district's water supply disruptions are being addressed.

Ugu District Municipality recently released a statement stating that there are stringent measures in place to address the existing water supply disruptions in the district.

Although the municipality did not outline the measures in the statement, it said it was influenced by the recent interventions by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu together with the KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala.

Ugu municipal spokesperson, France Zama, said in the statement that the measures in place are tailored to provide short and long-term relief to the affected areas across the district.

“While implementation of these measures is underway, members of the public should take comfort in the improvements that have been realised in some areas through the implementation of these measures. An appeal for calm and patience is therefore made to our consumers while the municipality focuses its energies on the implementation of the water recovery measures in the district,” read the statement.

Zama added that a ‘war room’ was established to monitor and exert impetus towards the implementation of a six-point plan aimed at vigorously dealing with the water supply situation across the district.
