Model aims for pageant crown

Konke Nyathi of Mthwalume hopes to inspire girls from her hometown.

With hopes to one day wear the Miss South Africa crown, Konke Nyathi of Mthwalume is a finalist in the Miss PMB Integrity pageant.

The 22-year-old said she hopes to win the Miss PMB Integrity title so that other young girls from her hometown can also see and believe that they can achieve anything they put their minds to.

Nyathi, currently studying Management Accounting at the Durban University of Technology, said she has always been passionate about modelling. She added that she has always looked up to Zabelo Hlabisa, a model who has competed internationally.

“I have always wanted to do modelling. Back in high school when someone told me that I should be a model because of my body size, I used to laugh because I always knew I loved modelling, it is just that I did not have much confidence back then,” she said.

She added that she is proud of herself for ignoring the “abantu bazothini syndrome” (what will people say syndrome), and entered the pageant. She added that without support from her loved ones and social media friends, she wouldn’t be where she is.

She described the Miss PMB Integrity pageant as a platform that helps one build self-esteem and confidence. Nyathi said while running for Miss PMB Integrity, she learnt about nutrition and donating to good causes.

The model said she has since volunteered her time at Port Shepstone Child Welfare, Bongucele Secondary School, and Gezubuso Trust.

“It is a great honour to be part of this beauty pageant. My wish is to one day be named Miss South Africa so that I can be able to help other upcoming models to believe in their dreams. For people who would love to vote for me in this pageant, they can do so by liking my photograph on the Miss PMB Integrity Facebook page and they can also donate towards the charity work that I do,” she said.
