Union warns against teachers involved in job posts
The memorial service was for Mshiywa Primary School's acting principal, Mthunzi Ngcobo, who was recently gunned down in the KwaNyuswa area near Izingolweni.
The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) does not have job posts and it does not advertise them.
These were the words of SADTU Ugu chairperson, Mpumelelo Mteshane, who was speaking during a memorial service at St Peters Church in Izingolweni on Thursday last week.
The memorial service was for Mshiywa Primary School’s acting principal, Mthunzi Ngcobo, who was recently gunned down in the KwaNyuswa area, near Izingolweni.
Mteshane said the issue of SADTU members being involved in job posts is a threat to the union. The regional chairperson said this after he heard that Ngcobo had created a WhatsApp group for young graduates who were unemployed in the area, to assist them by talking to the relevant stakeholders.
“The group for unemployed people which was created by Mthunzi must be closed down because that is when people are tempted to sell job posts.
They are tempted because they do not have money. This is a threat to the organisation, we are capable of destroying the union because of these job posts,” he said.
Ngcobo joined the Department of Education in 1994 and he was also the branch secretary of the Zakhele Cele Branch in the Mbuso Shabalala Region.
Also, Ngcobo was a member of the regional Executive Committee of the Mbuso Shabalala Region since 2015, and he was also a member of the CPF in Ward 32.
Regional chairperson, Mteshane described Ngcobo as a stubborn and compassionate man.
He said before the shooting, Ngcobo was involved in a car crash that almost claimed his life.
“I have led with Ngcobo for a long time and in his memory, as teachers, we need to go back to our schools and teach pupils. We need to make sure that we are on task and on time. We must make sure that when we go to school we are prepared. We want to see high schools in Izingolweni achieving 100% pass rates in the name of Mthunzi,” said Mteshane.
Meanwhile, KZN police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, said the motive for the killing is still unknown, saying that Ezinqoleni police are investigating a case of murder.
