ANC dismisses claims of removing Boyce

Boyce was also recently elected an ANC provincial executive committee member during the party's ninth elective conference.

The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal has dismissed rumours of removing South Coaster Nontembeko Boyce as the speaker of the KZN Legislature.

This comes after a voice recording circulated on social media alleging that there is a plan by the party to remove Boyce as speaker. ANC provincial spokesperson, Nhlakanipho Ntombela said they can give assurance that Boyce will finish her term as the speaker of the legislature.

Ntombela said Boyce is doing a fairly good job in leading the legislature, saying that the ANC has full confidence in her and they have no reason to remove her.

Boyce was also recently elected an ANC provincial executive committee member, along with Peggy Nkonyeni and Londolo Zungu.

The voice note of Boyce’s removal came at the same time as the rumours of a possible cabinet reshuffle within the KZN government.

“This voice note is vacuously aimed at causing panic among citizens,” said Ntombela.

Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala handed in his resignation on Thursday last week. He said he resigned to enhance coordination of the government and the ANC in the province.

The former ANC KZN chairperson handed his resignation letter to the new party provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo following his disturbing defeat at the recent elective conference.

Zikalala lost the position of chairperson to the former deputy chairperson of the George Mbhele branch in Umzumbe, Siboniso Duma.

On Monday, August 8, the ANC in KZN announced in a virtual media briefing that Treasury MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube is the new Premier for KwaZulu-Natal.
