Rainbow picnic for LGBTQI+ community
The event will feature music from local artists and performances from upcoming musicians.
Wear your favourite colour of the rainbow and show your support for the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+) community at the South Coast Rainbow Picnic.
The picnic will be held at the Ward 5 park near the TB Molefe Stadium on Saturday, October 29, and will be free for the public to attend.

According to the spokesperson of the South Coast Rainbow Picnic, Mlondi Mkhize the idea of the event came after they noticed the lack of establishments and events that are solely for the LGBTQI+ community on the South Coast.
He said the event will feature music from local artists and performances from upcoming musicians.
Mkhize said artists such as Quonic, Mavelisto, Mhlengi_Real, Zburh, Maluya, Emotic and Silverstone will showcase their talent, adding that master of ceremonies such as Zuki Sonnybee and Thando the L.O.V.E will direct the programme.
He added that they approached Ward 5 councillor, Phumlani Gumbi, to offer them the park to use for the picnic.
“We first approached the councillor of Ward 27, Mdumiseni Cele to ask for permission to use the Bambayi Sportsfield for the event and he was willing. But the problem was that over weekends, there are soccer tournaments; which is when we approached councillor Gumbi,” said Mkhize.

He added that Gumbi said the initiative was a progressive one and the park can be used for the South Coast Rainbow Picnic.
Mkhize said although the picnic is for the LGBTQI+ community, allies and non-homophobic people are welcome to attend.
“Because the event is aimed at creating a safe space for the LGBTQI+ community, we do not want any homophobes to attend. The event was planned for homosexual people to feel free, have fun and be themselves without worrying about who says or does what,” said Mkhize.
He added that for safety reasons, the event will start at 12pm and end at 8pm, saying that for more information email: cherronntando@gmail.com
