Regional hospital recognises staff’s sterling efforts

Nurses and doctors were awarded for efficient service delivery in first and second quarter of the year.

Port Shepstone Regional Hospital’s emergency department recently rewarded staff members for their hard work.

An awards ceremony was held at the hospital, to show appreciation to the staff for their dedication and commitment to service delivery during the first and second quarters of the 2022/2023 financial year.
Hospital PRO Phumza Morai said the awardees were handed certificates presented by the Head of the Clinical Unit, Dr Bavani Naicker, Emergency Medicine Specialist Dr Kamlin Ekambaram, Matron Pasi Tyala and Operational Nursing Manager Khanyiso Mthulu.

“The staff was awarded certificates for full attendance for the first and second quarters, professionalism, clear report writing and sequential handover. Dedication, efficiency, commitment, sense of urgency and caring attitude were also among the criteria on which the staff were awarded.”

Morai said the doctor who shows great potential for academic learning in emergency medicine was also awarded, as well as, the doctor who shows a sense of urgency and caring attitude for the most critically ill patients

” Doctors were even awarded for stepping up in terms of willingness to assist with coordination and efficiency during a crisis and for being the most improved emergency department doctor in terms of emergency medicine skills set.

“One of the doctors also received an award for being the best team leader. In addition to this, a special award was presented to Operational Nursing Manager Khanyiso Mthulu for innovation and creativity while providing good unit administration and designing a daily staff allocation register,” added Morai.

This was highlighted as an achievement for the hospital as it was benchmarked by the province. Professional Nurse BR Majola also received a special award for taking charge of the unit in the absence of the operational nursing manager during provincial nursing management reviews in February 2022. Professional Nurse Bryce Noble was recognised for his dedication, commitment, efficiency and continuous nursing care.

Head of the Clinical Unit, Dr Bavani Naicker said: “I salute you all and encourage you to keep on giving off your best for our patients, the emergency department team and the Ugu community, that is the least that they deserve.”
