Ugu municipalities scoop awards

A total of 31 categories saw 31 winners scooping awards during the Kamoso Awards recently.

Ugu District Municipality and three other local municipalities in the district scooped awards during the Kamoso Awards Programme by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements and Public Works on Friday last week.

At the awards ceremony held in Durban, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality bagged accolades for Social Sector: Best Local Municipality; Best Project: Community Works Programme, and Clean Audit for 2020/2021 and 2021/2022.
Ugu District Municipality was placed number one for achieving a clean audit in the overall spending of its grant monies meant for the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

Ugu District’s Special Programmes manager, Dudu Khowa thanked all the internal and external stakeholders for their hard work as well as her EPWP team for their efforts.

Also, Umdoni and Umzumbe municipalities walked away with an award each.

According to the KZN Department of Human Settlements and Public Works, the Kamoso Awards Programme is a government initiative to recognise municipalities and non-state organisations tasked with a responsibility to showcase excellence in EPWP implementation.

The ceremony attracted mayors, municipal speakers and senior government officials including representatives of the National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.

The KZN Department of Human Settlements and Public Works MEC, Ntuthuko Mahlaba recognised a total of 31 categories ranging from infrastructure, environment, culture, social sectors, monitoring and evaluation.
