Radio personality receives award

The Live Your Dream SA Youth Awards honour and elevate rising entertainment stars throughout South Africa from music, radio, television, dance, modelling, design and more.

Radio personality, Bhekani ‘Dankie’ Mthembu was recognised as the Best Radio Personality at the recent Live Your Dream SA Youth Awards held in Durban.

Mthembu who works for Umlazi-based radio station, Intokozo FM is originally from Izingolweni in KwaShali.

He said he was over the moon after he won the award, adding that he considers himself lucky to have won out of 33 nominees in his category.

The radio personality said he feels like the award is the start to putting his hometown on the map.

The former Mbonwa Secondary School pupil said he has been with Intokozo FM for a year and six months.
He added that his passion for radio started in 2019 when he did a three-month radio training course.

“In 2020, I auditioned at Siyathuthuka FM and I was lucky to be selected and worked there for a year and four months. I then joined Intokozo FM where I currently host a Deep House Session every Saturday from midnight to 3am, and Sundays from 1am to 4am,” said Mthembu.

He added that his goal in his career is to inspire young people from rural areas to believe in themselves and not to allow their backgrounds to dictate their career paths and success.
