Port Edward police captain retires

In 1996, Nzimakwe was promoted to Sergeant in the capacity of Relief Commander.

After 33 years of service, Captain Tonica Nzimakwe of Port Edward SAPS has retired.
According to Margate SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Sibu Ncane, Nzimakwe joined the South African Police Service in 1990 in Port Edward and served in the Community Service Centre.
Ncane said in 1996, Nzimakwe was promoted to sergeant in the capacity of Relief Commander, saying that due to his dedication, Nzimakwe was transferred to crime prevention and became a unit commander.
He added that Port Edward SAPS management had noticed his intelligence when it came to solving cases and placed him in the detective unit in 2000.
Ncane said in the same year, Nzimakwe was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer.
“In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and appointed as a Branch Commander of Port Edward. He thanked his colleagues from the station as well as at the district for the time he spent with them. He also added that he would have not made it without the Almighty who guided him in difficult times on his policing journey. He also thanked his family for the support and encouragement that they have shown. He encouraged men and women in blue to respect each other and the community at large. He expressed his appreciation to Ugu District detective commander Brigadier Bongani Sibiya and his team for what they did to bid him farewell,” said Ncane.
Also, Port Edward station commander Lieutenant Colonel Satish Premchand thanked Nzimakwe for his service.
“He was an asset and walking diary with a lot of knowledge. We wish him all the best on his well deserved new journey that will be spent with beloved family,” said Premchand.
