Police seek assistance in murder case

Initial observations revealed a missing right thumb, previously amputated and severe head injuries.

Port Shepstone Detective Services are investigating a case of murder after the body on an unknown man was found in Murchison on January 2.

Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said a herdsman discovered the body and contacted police.

Mpinge said the deceased had no identification and was wrapped in a blanket.

He added that initial observations revealed a missing right thumb, which was previously amputated and severe head injuries.

“He could be between the ages of 35 and 45. The possibility that the deceased could have been killed elsewhere and dumped in the area cannot be ruled out. Anyone with information or who may have reported a missing male of that age, is requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Koenie van Staden on 039 688 1090 or 073 6259211,” said Mpinge
