A reason to smile after excellent matric results

The party that championed the transformation of our country through education.

The ANC in KZN says the people of the province have a reason to smile following excellent matric results.
The release of the matric results coincide with the celebrations of the 111 years of the existence of the ANC, the party that championed the transformation of the country through education.

The 80.1% pass rate achieved nationally and, 83% achieved in this province is a major milestone.
The fact that we exceeded our target of 80% and clinched number three spot in the country is a clear demonstration of our determination to accelerate progress towards achieving a rising quality of life through education.

As the ANC in this province we say to the Class of 2022 “The Sky is not the Limit.” You must go out there and conquer the world. Through your hard work and dedication, the people of KwaZulu-Natal have a reason to smile.
We wish to pay tribute to the MEC for Education Mbali Frazer and all categories of staff in the Department of Education at the head office and in various district offices.
Importantly we wish to single out educators and principals for their commitment throughout the greater part of the 2022 academic year.

As the ANC we are supporting MEC’s efforts aimed at improving the learner/teacher ratio. As the ANC we acknowledge that many schools, especially in townships and rural areas, are overcrowded and still have unacceptably high learner/teacher ratios. This puts a strain on teachers thereby having a deleterious effect on teaching and learning. Despite these challenges, many schools have done exceptionally well. Well done to all of you.
Through the hard work of Comrade Mbali Frazer and her entire management team we witnessed collective work with school governing bodies and communities.

As we move forward we are emphasising the role of parents and the family in the process of teaching and learning.
The family, parents in particular, are an important stakeholder in ensuring that homework is done, and that the child attends school diligently in the first place. The importance of this facet of education can never be exaggerated.
We are encouraged by the cooperation between organised labour and our education department, including civic formations and students organisations such as COSAS.

We pause to acknowledge the enduring roles of the South African Democratic African Teachers Union (Sadtu) and the National Teachers Union towards the upliftment of the African child.
We are humbled by the dedication of the people of KwaZulu-Natal and all stakeholders who worked as a collective to ensure decent education for our children.

It should be stated that this province has performed exceptionally well despite all socio-economic challenges we faced as the result of prolonged negative impact of Covid-19 and devastating floods.
To learners who did not do well, we say this is not the end of the world. If you fell yesterday – stand up today.
You need to learn that in life when you stumble, you need to pick up the pieces and double your efforts.

– Bheki Mtolo, ANC Provincial Secretary
