New MECs for Cogta and Agriculture
The swearing-in of the new MECs has been spurred by the resignation of the COGTA MEC, Sihle Zikalala.
After the resignation of KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Sihle Zikalala, two members of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature were sworn in as Members of the Executive Council.
Former KZN MEC for the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Bongiwe Nomusa Sithole-Moloi, was named the new KZN COGTA MEC.
Also, Super Zuma was sworn in as the new KZN MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development.
KZN Premier, Nomusa Dube-Ncube said the swearing-in of the new MECs has been spurred by the resignation of the COGTA MEC, who was recently sworn-in as a member of parliament (MP).
“We wish to thank Zikalala for the service he has given to the people of the province of KwaZulu-Natal over the years in various capacities and we wish him well for the future.
The Judge President concluded the swearing-in ceremony of Sithole-Moloi as the new MEC for COGTA and the new MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Zuma, has been a member of the provincial legislature serving in various committees with absolute diligence and dedication,” said Dube-Ncube, adding that the new MEC for COGTA brings in a wealth of experience in the field of local government and traditional affairs portfolio which is at the coalface of service delivery and is charged with leading local government and traditional institutions that brings about change and improvement in the lives of the people.
The Premier said Sithole-Moloi has served as a local government practitioner, councillor and mayor.
Dube-Ncube said the new COGTA MEC has a strong insight of issues within the traditional affairs institution, adding that they believe that she will propel the department to even greater heights.
“Both MECs are activists who have worked in various community sectors. They understand first-hand the challenges in local government and possess deep insight in working with the citizens of KwaZulu-Natal,” said Dube-Ncube.
